Japan Post Differential Corrections Will Be Published April 10

A corrected Allowance by Location table (DSSR 920) for Japan will be published on April 10 to clarify the geographic coverage for the 10% post differential that became effective on 27 March 2011. The table that was published March 27 did not apply the 10% post differential to all the locations in the table that are eligible for this differential. We regret the error and any inconvenience. We are working with agency payroll offices so that all eligible employees receive this allowance.

The Office of Allowances has identified the source of the publishing error and is correcting it.

The following is the list of prefectures eligible for the 10% post differential rate:

Aichi, Akita, Aomori, Chiba, Fukushima, Gunma, Ibaraki, Iwate, Kanagawa, Miyagi, Nagano, Niigata, Saitama, Shizuoka, Tochigi, Tokyo-to, Yamagata and Yamanashi.

A footnote will be added explaining this area of applicability.

Listed posts within these prefectures are:

Atsugi, Camp Zama, Chiba-Ken, Fussa, Gotemba, Haneda, Kanagawa-Ken, Komaki, Machida-Shi, Misawa, Nagoya, Sagamihara, Saitama-Ken, Tachikawa, Tokyo City, Tokyo-To, Yokohama, Yokosuka, and Yokota.

The following places that were newly listed in the March 27 table are included in the covered prefectures but will be removed from the table because they are not tracked as posts of assignment but are tracked for per-diem only:

Akita, Aomori, Nagano, Niigata.

These are the capital cities of the prefectures that have the same names. The removal does not signify that these locations are ineligible for 10% differential. These locations are within the covered area but are not tracked as assignment locations.
